It’s the most wonderful time of the year—and we don’t just mean the holidays!

We’ve got a special gift for you—the best hackers from all over the globe will gather together for a Holiday Mayhem livestream Hack the Box (HTB) event! That’s right, Hack the Box teamed up with our gracious sponsor Snyk for an epic Hacking Battlegrounds live streamed tournament!

Hacking really IS the new gaming. For this streamed HBG event, we’ve selected 16 elite teams, coming directly from the International Cybersecurity Challenge (ICC) community, from all over the world comprising 32 total players for a Cyber Mayhem game. These hackers are the best of the best, and are each representing their countries to become the grand prize Holiday Mayhem winner!

At the end of the stream, HTB Community Manager r0adrunn3r will have a live draw of the tournament’s brackets. That way all of the teams will have time to meet their opponents and prepare their hacking strategy for the Main Event on Friday.

Let the Holiday Mayhem Craze Begin...

32 players, across 16 international teams, will test their skills in four different rounds, qualifying to the semi-final, and lastly to the final, with different rewards for every stage.

Round 1

16 teams will face a qualification round to determine the best 8 players going to the second round. One new machine in 20 minutes will be the target.

Round 2

During the semi-finals, only 4 teams will be promoted to the Grand Finale! Two new machines again in 30 minutes.

Round 3
Semi-Final

4 players, 1 new machine of escalated difficulty, 20 minutes only, and 2 teams will be promoted to the Final Round. This will be intense!

Round 4
The Final Round

2 players, 1 machine, 20 minutes only, 1 Ultimate Champipn. This will be intense! Which country will rise to the TOP?

HTB Hacking Battlegrounds is a gamified approach to attack and defense where players can play one against the other (or in teams 2vs2) at a limited time. Vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and weaknesses usually vary but mainly the focus is on OWASP top10 and the latest CVEs. Each box is vulnerable to multiple vectors and that’s why Battlegrounds are considered good practice/training for purple teamers as players need also to patch the vulnerabilities. Speed is very important thus skills must be combined with accuracy and mindset. Finally, most boxes are easy and players are learning the importance of speed especially in defense when time is crucial for operations.
